CUSTOMIZATION & MODIFICATION
OVERVIEW
Over the last couple of years, ALR has realized many Customization & modification tasks on 3rd party products for various projects. The projects listed below shall give a short but representative overview of the modifications involved and shall also be an indication on ALR’s engineering potential for upcoming modification requests:
GETAC X500 Modification: rugged Rear-Box
Starting situation
GETAC’s X500 is a powerful, semi-rugged Laptop with a sturdy, magnesium-aluminum enclosure. And as long as the integrated communication ports (USB, Ethernet etc.) are not used, the X500 offers some pretty good water- and dust-resistance as all these ports are covered by rubber-tabs. But once the user needs to get connected to external devices via these ports, all water- and dust-resitance is gone as these ports are standard ports without any kind of protection. So, what can a user do if these ports need to be connected and the environmental conditions aren’t sunny & dry? That’s where ALR comes into play…

The Solution: ALR’s Rugged Rear-Box
ALR has developed a rugged aluminum enclosure which can be equipped with any kind of rugged/military Connector and screwed directly to the X500 enclosure! The Rear-Box’ integrated gaskets protect the ingress of water and dust up to IP65/MIL-STD810 and also improve the EMC/EMI-resistance to MIL-STD461 Level!
And as the X500’s Enclosure is not damaged whilst the Rear-Box is mounted - ALR uses only existing scew-threads in the X500 enclosure and All wiring between the original X500 connectors and the visible/accessible MIL-Connectors is done inside the box! - the original warranty of the X500 isn’t affected at all!
